The BC Ale Trail was created by the BC Craft Brewers Guild to connect British Columbia’s world-class brewing scene with tourism organizations across the province – showcasing BC’s delicious craft beer and inspiring geography to visitors. Once the Ale Trail was established, the next logical step was to find a way to not only provide a guide, but also reward beer enthusiasts for their exploration. Within six months of launch, the BC Ale Trail app has been a huge success, with more than 3000 downloads. This number continues to rise as ale trails are added to the app.
The BC Ale Trail app is a gamified way to reward beer enthusiasts for exploration. The app’s Explore button takes users to the map of BC’s 17 Ale Trails, with pins indicating the location of breweries, lodging, outdoor recreation and other ways to experience the province’s natural beauty.People are coming from all over the world to explore the ale trails using the app. In the first 6 months, users from 12 different countries used the app to explore BC.
“British Columbia’s brewers are known for their innovation, and this app is the latest example of that,” said Ken Beattie, Executive Director of the BC Crafter Brewers Association. “The BC Ale Trail app not only guides people through the Ale Trails, it rewards them for exploring. Creating this incentive for adventure is good for visitors, breweries and local businesses across the province.”
"I love the idea of this app and it's going to fill a huge gap as there are so many craft breweries in BC."
